Reading to start researching an Alaska trip
The second book I read was Guide to the Alaska Highway. This is a very practical book on what to drive to Alaska and what you need to pack and have handy.
Researching trekking to Alaska
The first book I read was the Alaska Traveler by Dana Stabenow.
She helped narrow the whole wide state to interesting areas. When I investigated the actual activities they seemed very expensive. I'm keeping a list of them to see what might work out when we are near the sights. I heard along time ago that when you visit Alaska you need to experience all forms of transportation: air, land, sea, car, train, bike, foot.
The Milepost is known as the Alaska traveler's bible. It's the size of a Sears catalog and a bit overwhelming. I found the best place to start was at the very beginning. I have the digital version on all my electronic devises. Unfortunately it's not a download and internet is required to access it. Every sight and intersection is identified with a mile post number. I'll keep this on my lap as we travel down the road.

Getting started
It's 5 degrees and dropping outside. I thought I would take this opportunity to learn how to blog. This summer we will be traveling to Alaska and I want to document our travels. More to come later as I learn how to do this.
