Our Jayco Motorhome

John with the former owner of our little Motorhome that we will drive and live in. It has a little microwave, 1 burner range, tiny sink, flushable toilet, couch, table, and queen size bed. John replaced the old school tv with a 17" flat screen tv. He's done quite a bit of work to the vehicle and he got the generator fixed so that the air conditioning and heater

Rain gear is a must for any Alaskan adventure.

The weather is ever changing in Alaska. It can go from sunny, to rainy, from hot to cold all in the same day or maybe the same hour. We will find out. I'm going to prepare for any changing to be drastic within an hour.  Rain suits, rain coat, wind breakers, and dry pants need to be ready to cover up at any given moment.

Choosing proper clothing to be prepared for the varied and everchanging weather.

Dressing in layers is the key to comfort. It's advised to avoid cotton. I think because it takes so long to dry. There might be a few opportunities to dress fashionably. For the most part comfort, form, and function will win over fashion. My summer dresses will have to wait to be worn after we return home. My oversized Cabela cargo shorts will be functional under swish pants and wool leg warmers. My fleece biking gloves can be snapped to any belt loop, handy to warm my fingers.

Eating options for the adventure

MREs seem like an interesting cooking option when we're camping off the grid.  They are complete with entree, sides, dessert, beverage, utensils, and heating source.  Chocolate is a tantalizing treat topping off a strenuous hike. Celebrating a day of exploring Denali toasting with Merlot. Hopefully the wildlife we watch is upclose and personal because of the high powered binoculars and the bear bell wards off the big grizzlies.

Gathering gadgets for the trip

Sophie gathered the collapsible bowl, collapsible cooler/picnic basket, collapsible storage box, shower, and hand warmers. Space is a premium on our little 19' Jayco RV Motorhome. The bowl might be the only bowl I'll have to mix and serve from. The 7 storage boxes will contain clothing, food, and supplies.  They can be stacked or stored between the bench couch and under the fold down bed. The cooler/basket will be used for shopping, picnicking, or moving supplies outside to cook outside instead of inside. The Motorhome has a flushable toilet but no shower. Not sure if the sun shower will be used. We plan on filling it and storing on the windowsill of the sunny side of the van.  Temperatures can vary with 90 highs and 20 lows. Hand warmers will be a welcome device when the mercury dips to 20 and we're hiking through the wilderness.  The little bear bell hopefully will keep the big grizzlies
at a safe distance.

Sophie helping me blog the preparation for going to Alaska

Before getting started we snacked on popcorn. Sophie enjoys butter and mine is cooked in olive oil. I don't know why my narrative didn't record when using Google+ video.
