Walked about the lake and took pictures.
While John was sitting on the rocks with his sore foot in the cold water a butterfly landed on his knee for a brief moment. This was the only butterfly around and we think it very odd to be there. It was the only time that we saw a butterfly. John believes it was Elaine telling him that she was glad that we were here and that a she was happy that we were together. An extremely touching and emotional experience.
At the camp ground we walked around after dinner and cleaning up the dishes. It was pretty with the mountains and stream.

Just before Taylor, we saw a juvenile moose on the left side of the road. I saw a moose skeleton in the right ditch.

Stopped at Pink Mountain hotel, cafe, and pub. The fireplace and blankets to use while warming Round the fire. There was a sign to take off muddy boots and there were rubber floor runners throughout all the walkways.

Street sign frost with 72,000 signs. There was a town celebration with a free BBQ. We planned to go to the BBQ but got there too late. I was already geared up to not cook and clean the kitchen so we ate at Kathy's Kitchen for salmon dinner $20.95 plus $2.75 for a glass of milk. Poached salmon with a white sauce, steamed fresh broccoli and carrots, rice, a roll, cream of chicken soup, and fresh peach crisp.
Went to the grocery store and spoke to the friendly clerks. The one is Rosie and told us interesting site so look for on our way to Whitehorse. 24 ounces of little potatoes cost $5.57.

Swan Lake. 3040 miles on this trip.Talked to a lady and her little dog. They have traveled 12,000 miles. They started in Vermont and wintered in Texas. They traveled through Arizona and then north to the Yukon. The dog has her own photo album.
Teslin Lake and bridge around 3120 trip mile.
So far today we've seen a man pulling a rickshaw type cart while walking and an older man walking his bike up a hill. He looked like he was about to die. Quite a few self contained bicyclists.

Went to the river board walk and took a picture of us having our evening refreshment along the Yukon River. It would be a perfect paddle boarding experience if there was time.

Pretty rough morning. Woke up at 5:30 and proceeded to start driving. Made the bed while waiting the few minutes to take the ferry across the Yukon River. Drove the " To the Top of the World" Highway. ( around 70 miles). Waited at US border for it to open T 8:00 am.

While we were sitting in the van an Alaskan Hwy guy told us that the area is working with pilot cars and he offered to escort us now in stead of waiting for the next pilot car. It was nice following a local through the construction zone, fog, and rain.

6/25/2014 9:00 am Rosie started the Discovery Strenuous hike. Jessica was the Ranger. Andre and Denise from Germany and Jill from Chicago. ( BA from North Michigan and MA from Boston, now an athletic trainer for Johnston University.)
Record rain fall in Denali. Teklanika River has record amount of water. The stream we were going to walk through was too high to make it to the cathedral mountains. Went an alternate route.
Saw a few variety of small tundra flowers. Lapland Diapensia. Dwarf Dogwood. For get me nots. Moss Campion. Dwarf fireweed.
The Nile was pretty strenuous for me, but I'm glad I did it. I sat high on the soft tundra while the younger folks forged higher ahead. They didn't make it to the summit. It was very rocky and steep. I fell good doing what I did.
We saw bear on the bus ride to and from the hike. The mama bear was nursing her 2 cubs. What a treat!

The kids were up until after 11 pm. Of course it was light as day. Had fresh salmon with capers at the Carriage House Restaurant. Parked in the parking lot. The restaurant was unlocked all night so we could use the restroom at any time. The cook didn't sleep all night. She fed a crew of 25 pipeline workers at 5 am.

Visited Fort Union near Williston, ND. Then drove through the heart of the booming oil fields on Hwy 1804. Stopped at the confluence of the Missouri and Yellowstone Rivers.
Finally found our way to Fort Mandan. It was closed by the time we got there but I held my camera inside the fence and took photos.
